TrackersNW Afterschool is different than many after school programs. We weave appreciation for the natural world, friends and family into fun and exciting learning experiences.
Our staff is committed to building an inclusive team spirit with an eye for the individual camper's needs and safety in the outdoors. We meet you and your children at our martial arts and nature center near Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge in Sellwood, the ideal urban greenspace to explore nature and be a kid.
In this program, our instructors provide a safe and welcoming atmosphere to do what EVERY kids should be doing after school: wandering the woods, catching frogs, building shelters, tracking otters and tying knots (plus much more). Everyday is non-stop adventure.
This program is one of the many programs we offer as a solution to what's been called Nature Deficit Disorder. In line with the recommendations of many experts, our kids need much more time being outside. Set up an appointment to learn more, register over the phone, online or Contact Us.

After School Mission
The after school is simple: fun, fitness, and “time outside”. To many kids do not get enough exercise and exposure to the out of doors. We are here to change this! We work to really explore the 88 acres of Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge and the Willamette River in our safe paddle boats.
Teams are made up of 12 children. At all times, every team has both a Team Leader and Field Leader with them, making a ratio of 1 instructor for every 6 students. Teams collaborate on how to accomplish each activity. We balance planned options with student and staff input, shaping inspiring opportunities to reveal our pledge “1 adventure everyday.”
Team Leaders are the foundation, the rock, for our program. Team Leaders create and facilitate team activities for children. Each Team Leader is an experienced educator and guide who is present the entire afternoon with kids. They take children through the myriad of field experiences provided by our Field Leaders. Their focus is our “peacemaking and clarity” thematic, facilitating fun and healthy means for communications through a series of team games and clarity tools. Rapport and social interaction takes on a whole new level under the capable hands of our Team Leaders.
Field Leaders are what makes the adventure of our transported after school program different than any other. Every month we publish a calendar highlighting which Field Leaders will guest star to teach their individual absolutely fabulous specialized skills. Your child spends three days with David Jacobson practicing land stewardship as Portland and its natural areas become our forest garden to tend for many generations. They learn how to convert a van to vegetable oil with Thaddeus Koster or develop improv theater and storytelling skills with Lisa Wells. Kids play classical or homespun music with Molly Strand or piece together a brand new bike from old parts with Shaun Deller. There is a new adventure every week. Everyday includes a fitness piece of yoga and martial arts training, along with intensive personal time connecting with and learning from the natural world. We guarantee our afternoons will be packed with so many amazing things, even parents will be jealous and want to come. Honestly!
