Steam and Train: The future is steam! Imagine a world entirely run by steam. Steam robots, Steam Rockets, Steam Jet Packs, and Steam Widgets. This is Steam Punk. A unique form of science fiction, driven by the locomotion of steam.
See how steam helped move, shape, and build our world to be what it is today and how it continues to be a part of our lives.
ITS ALL ABOUT STEAM! Marvel at how Locomotives, Steamboats, and many other pieces of Steam equipment were some of the most outstanding feats of engineering history.
Steam, trains, boats. etc.: Steam engines were used in almost every form of industry and through all parts of our lives for over 200 years. See Railroad Locomotives, Steamboats, Steamships, Donkey Engines (Used for Logging in the forest), Steam Farm Tractors, Steam Crane, Steam rollers, Steam shovels, Steam Turbines, and many other kinds of steam equipment.
This week we will...
Visit the Roundhouse at Brooklyn Railyard in Portland, OR and see three steam locomotives up close. See the massive #4449 Daylight Locomotive, and the enormous#700 SP&S Locomotive, that still run the rails today. You will also see a third locomotive that is being restored to running condition.
Visit the Steamer Portland, the last operating steam powered tug boat in Oregon, docked along the seawall in downtown Portland.
Travel to The Western Antique Powerland Museum in Brooks, OR to see the various kinds of steam engines that kept industries and lives running smoothly. You will see Steam Donkeys, Farm Tractors, Fire Engines, Automobiles, equipment for heating houses and buildings, and as power for many kinds of mills, and many other uses. We will see several kinds of steam equipment powered up and running.
We will travel to Chehalis, WA to see Engine No. 15 on the Chehalis-Centralia Railroad, steamed up to run and take a short ride. This will be a special treat arranged and set up just for our students.
