Life across Cascadia...
The Waters are our life blood. The rivers and ocean becomes arteries and hearts that keep Cascadia alive.
The Cascadia Boat Builders Guild works for the creation of true seafaring craft. We build boats and bring them to life them with our attention, care, sweat and blood.
We build & live on skin on frame, traditional kayaks and umiaks that people have depended on for thousands of years in the toughest, most dangerous water conditions in the world. This is reading the wood, this is framing, lashing, and pegging. This is sewing the skin and sail, into raw, needle pricked fingers and calloused hands. This is bringing a boat to life and welcoming it into the village.

9-day Traditional Skin on Frame Kayak Building
Summer 2008
June 28-July 6, 8am-5pm
Build your own kayak to fit your own body! Skin on frame boats put technology tested for millennia into your hands. Modern skin on frame construction is lighter AND tougher than fiberglass or solid wood designs. This workshop will teach you how design affects performance so you can be ready to build your next boat on your own, the way you want it! No two boats will be the same.
This course lasts 9 days. We not only give you a Kayak but also the basic principles of boat design. Many programs offer the kayaks as kits students simply assemble. We have you cut the wood and customize it to your needs. This way you really learn the facets of the art and hopefully make boat building a lifetime hobby.

Traditional Skin on Frame Kayaks
These boats are known for their durability and customization verse other commercial kayaks. They are low profile, a work of art and a work horse, plus it is theorized that their acoustics on the water actually attract the wildlife around you. Either build your own or use one of ours, you get an opportunity to step back in time with the adventure of a lifetime. As seal skins are not a readily available material all boats are "skinned" with a balistic grade nylon, thus being vegan friendly, We cut and sew the skin in much the same manner a traditional boat.
