Life across Cascadia...

growing mushrromsSurvival! To us this word means connection to the land. It means that all your needs, and the needs of your village can be met and cared for by simply listening to and tending to the natural world. Survival is not about the People of Cascadia taking everything "right now," it is about us living by a harvest and design that takes the health of future generations into account. Survival is the new story and vision of sustainability.

The Cascadia Survival Guild takes you through a series of skills that are the human birthright. Knowing that "common sense is no longer common" You have a conversation with our land about how we live. Through the story learned, we invest in a relationship of family, one where all life is dependent on one another for survival.

This is the art of building your shelter with your own two hands, crafting your baskets from willows you tend to every year, asking the trees for fire (even with no matches) and revealing and caring for the water the we all drink to live.

This is the art of “keeping it living."

YouTube Video Brian knapping an arrowhead from a glass bottle bottom. He wanted to show what could be done with locally sourced materials in a short amount of time. At lot of commentors have goaded him on youtube about larger points. Guess they didn't watch the video all the way to the end:) The wilderness skills field is filled with "dudes" looking to show each other up or be the best. We are lucky Brian is humble and only cares about people learning more.

Rekindling The Fire: Primitive Skills & The Lost Art Of Living

Brian Schuch of the Cascadia Survival Guild takes you through an evening series of primitive skills and craftsmanship that are the human birthright: including primitive techniques in building fires, medicinal edible plants, stone tool making, weaving from local plants, shelter and caretaking for community and the landscape around you. Traditional Wood Bowmaking

The Cascadia Archers Guild takes you take you on a journey from raw bow staves to finished bow over the course of two weekends. Your first working bow is a rite of passage. It becomes a tool of skill, and possibly a one of life and death in the story of the great dance, of a real hunt and relationship with the wild around you.

Or it becomes a work of artistry, a way to master centered body awareness.

Your design and your inspiration, from your heart and the wood you craft it with. You start with a weekend. You come back after a couple of days and take it to the finished work.
