Playing is central to healthy development.

At Wild Child Summer Camp,we structure each child's experience around play and connection to nature in our beautiful outdoor setting in the redwoods at Canyon Elementary School in the east bay hills. Our experienced staff guides, supports and encourages the child's natural curiosity. Our children's ideas and desires for projects and adventures inspire our teacher's planning. Our time at camp balances structure for the physical and emotional safety of every child, with flexibility for meaningful creativity and growth. The result is teamwork, often pulling together different ages, talents, and ideas for common goals. The rewards are new skills, strong bonds and appreciation for the natural world (and each other).

Wild Child Summer Camp helps foster environmental stewardship by teaching awareness of the natural processes that surround us. We cover key aspects of biology, geology, botany, natural history, astronomy, storytelling, awareness, nutrition, all in fun activities that connect children with their local environment. We teach the skills necessary to become hypercompetent adults, from understanding how to grow food, how to caretake and use the landscape, how to construct things for themselves- useful skills that they'll likely carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Registration is available online or by mail. Special rates are available for consecutive weeks or groups registering together. Camp After Care Aftercare is available with 24 hour advanced notice from 3-6 pm, for $10 per hour. Late pickups, following a 15 minute grace period will be charged for the full hour of aftercare. Before care is also available at the same rates from 8:00-9:00 am.

Camper to Staff Ratio

Our summer camp is limited to 30 campers per session with a 6:1 ratio of campers to staff with additional special guests and “junior counselors” to help out. This allows the directors and staff to know every child personally so we may build strong, meaningful relationships with each camper, and provide each camper with the personalized attention that they need.

Location

Our program is located on the grounds of Canyon Elementary School (on Pinehurst Road between Montclair and Moraga) where our campers enjoy plenty of activity space, a full playground, redwoods, creek, many sub-climates within walking distance, diverse local flora and fauna, and an organic community-garden facility.
